Turkish military convoy hit by explosives in southeast
DIYARBAKIR, Turkey (Reuters) – A convoy carrying Turkish soldiers in the mainly Kurdish southeast was hit by four remote-controlled explosive devices on Wednesday, security sources said, the latest sign of escalating violence in the restive region. The convoy was travelling in the Semdinli region of Hakkari province bordering Iraq when it was hit, security sources said. There were no immediate reports of any deaths. The army sent in troop reinforcements and helicopter gunships in response. …

Italian writer held over murder in "Basic Instinct" case
ROME (Reuters) – An Italian man has been arrested over the murder of a Nigerian prostitute after police searching her apartment found a short story he wrote with close similarities to the killing. Police in the northern Italian city of Turin discovered the nine-page story entitled “The Rose and the Lion” among the belongings of Anthonia Egbuna, whose body was fished out of the river Po in February, a Carabinieri spokesman told Reuters on Wednesday. She had been stabbed to death. Police took some months to identify the body and then visited Egbuna’s apartment last month. …

Telus, Mason spar over voting rights in stock plan
(Reuters) – Telus Corp's largest investor has sharply criticized the Canadian telecom company's revived plan to consolidate its two classes of stock on a one-for-one basis, saying Telus made unfair procedural changes to clear the way for approval. Earlier this year U.S. hedge fund Mason Capital Management LLC derailed Telus's initial effort to win backing for the plan, which would give non-voting shares the same rights as voting shares.
