Slovene trade unions stage mass protest against budget cuts
LJUBLJANA (Reuters) – Thousands of Slovenians rallied on Saturday to protest against government austerity policies denounced by trade unionists as a “neo-liberal virus that is spreading across Europe”. Slovenia adopted the euro in 2007 and has been badly hit by the global crisis due to its dependency on exports. This year the government, struggling to avoid a bailout, cut public sector wages by about 3 percent. Syrian coalition to name envoy to France: Hollande
PARIS (Reuters) – Syria’s opposition coalition is to appoint an envoy to France, French President Francois Hollande said after meeting the head of the Syrian National Coalition on Saturday. A French diplomatic source said the official would act as a representative of the coalition, becoming ambassador once a provisional government is established and recognized internationally. “There will be a Syrian ambassador in France who will be appointed by the president of the coalition,” Hollande said. …


Moldova blocks Russian plan to expand presence in rebel enclave
