DUBLIN (Reuters) – Thousands of people rallied outside Ireland's parliament on Wednesday to demand strict abortion rules be eased after a pregnant Indian woman repeatedly denied a termination died in an Irish hospital. Savita Halappanavar, 31, admitted to University Hospital Galway in the west of Ireland last month, died of septicaemia a week after miscarrying 17 weeks into her pregnancy. Her repeated requests for termination were rejected because of the presence of a foetal heartbeat, her husband told state broadcaster RTE. …

Protests flare in Mozambique over bus fare hikes
MAPUTO (Reuters) – Protesters burned tires and barricaded roads in Mozambique’s capital on Thursday in retaliation to a government plan to hike bus fares in one of the world’s poorest countries. Police encircled Maputo’s poorest suburbs, where demonstrating commuters blocked intersections with burning tires. All bus services were cancelled. It was not immediately clear if there had been any arrest or injuries. Maputo’s municipal assembly voted last week to raise bus fares by 40 percent to $0.24, an amount that many in the impoverished former Portuguese colony cannot afford. …

Canadian Solar revenue falls on weak prices
(Reuters) – Solar products maker Canadian Solar Inc reported a 35 percent fall in third-quarter revenue due to a steep decline in prices of panels that convert sunlight into electricity. Net loss slightly dipped to $43.7 million, or $1.01 per share, from $43.9 million, or $1.02 per share, a year earlier. Police make new arrest in Savile case
LONDON (Reuters) – Police have arrested a man in his 60s from the central English county of Bedfordshire as part of an investigation into alleged child abuse centering on former BBC presenter Jimmy Savile. Police said in a statement the man, who they declined to name, was arrested on Thursday morning on suspicion of sexual offences and taken into custody. It said that so far 450 victims have come forward and that police had recorded 200 allegations of sexual assault. …
