Riot police move in to end Myanmar copper mine protest
YANGON (Reuters) – Riot police fired water cannon and tear gas early on Thursday to disperse people protesting against the forced eviction of villagers in northwestern Myanmar to make way for a copper mine expansion, residents and activists said. U.N. chief recommends "offensive military operation" in Mali
UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) – U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon cautiously recommended on Wednesday that the Security Council approve the deployment of an African Union “offensive military operation” to combat Islamist extremists in northern Mali, but did not offer funding from the world body.
