German high-speed rail link to London delayed further
FRANKFURT (Reuters) – European travellers will have to wait longer than expected for direct train connections from London to Frankfurt, German rail operator Deutsche Bahn said, citing delays to the delivery of new high-speed trains. The state-owned rail operator said on Thursday its three-times daily service, which promises to bring passengers the 640 kilometres from London to Frankfurt in about five hours, would not be in place before 2016. It had originally hoped to start running trains on the route for 2013. …


Canada Sept retail sales disappoint but hit record
OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canadian retail sales edged up by a less-than-expected 0.1 percent in September from August, after July’s 0.3 percent boost, but nonetheless hit another record, Statistics Canada said on Thursday. Retail sales were led by a 0.6 percent increase in the auto sector, excluding them sales were flat. The median forecast in a Reuters survey of analysts was for a 0.5 percent increase in the overall number and also in sales excluding autos. Twenty-three of 24 forecasters expected growth of 0.3 percent or more. …
