Kinross Gold hires new financial chief
(Reuters) – Kinross Gold Corp said on Wednesday it has hired a new chief financial officer just three months after replacing its chief executive officer. Tony Giardini will take on the CFO and executive vice-president role, effective December 1. Current CFO Paul Berry, whose pending departure was announced earlier this month, will stay on in a transition role, the company said. Giardini, a registered chartered account, was CFO of Ivanhoe Mines, now known as Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd , from 2006 to 2012. He was most recently CFO at Capstone Mining Corp . …


Kuwaitis protest after activist held for insulting emir
KUWAIT (Reuters) – Kuwaiti police fired tear gas and smoke bombs on Wednesday to disperse thousands of protesters marching on a prison where an opposition leader is being held on charges of insulting the emir, witnesses said. The unrest comes amid rising tension ahead of parliamentary elections on December 1 which the opposition is boycotting. Defense lawyers said on Wednesday prosecutors had charged Musallam al-Barrack on three counts related to a speech in which he made critical remarks about the country’s 83-year-old emir, and ordered him held for 10 days pending further questioning. …
