VICTORIA, British Columbia (Reuters) – British Columbia will return to a budget surplus in the next fiscal year by clamping down on spending, hiking taxes and selling assets, its finance minister projected on Tuesday in a lean budget that is seen as make-or-break for the Liberals ahead of a May election. UK names Bailey to head central bank prudential watchdog
LONDON (Reuters) – Britain named veteran Bank of England official Andrew Bailey on Tuesday to head its new banking regulator just a month befor e he must present a plan to help two partly state-owned banks to become independent. Bailey will become a deputy governor of the Bank of England and chief executive of the bank's new prudential regulation authority (PRA) from April 1.
