New York Times CEO to get annual base salary of $1 million
(Reuters) – The New York Times Co will pay an annual base salary of $1 million to newly appointed CEO Mark Thompson, according to a regulatory filing made by the company on Friday. Thompson, who joined the company from the BBC on Tuesday, is also entitled to get an equity sign-on bonus of $3 million, the filing said. Anthrax death sparks outbreak concern
LONDON (Reuters) – A British drug user has died from anthrax, health authorities said on Friday, triggering concerns a European outbreak of the rare infection among people who inject heroin may be worsening. The user was possibly infected by contaminated heroin and there were at least seven other similar cases across Europe, the Health Protection Agency (HPA) said in a statement. “It’s likely that further cases … will be identified as part of the ongoing outbreak in EU countries,” said the HPA’s Dilys Morgan. …

FRANKFURT (Reuters) – Lufthansa cabin crew will decide next week whether to strike over pay, a move that could cause widespread flight disruption at Germany’s leading airline. The UFO union, which represents more than 10,000 flight attendants and pursers in Germany, said on Friday it had rejected Lufthansa’s latest offer but expected the airline to make a new proposal by the middle of next week.
