LONDON (Reuters) – The Buzzard oilfield in the North Sea on Thursday could begin to restart later on Thursday, a trade source said, which could add to supplies of the most important of the North Sea crudes that underpin the Brent oil benchmark. Buzzard, the largest of the fields that contribute to the Forties crude blend, has been shut for maintenance since September 4. “They are going to start opening the wells later today,” said the source, who declined to be identified. …


Barrick's Pascua-Lama costs rise again, shares dive
(Reuters) – Barrick Gold Corp reported a sharp drop in third-quarter profit on Thursday, while again increasing its cost estimate for building the massive Pascua-Lama mine and pushing back the date when production at the project will begin. Shares of the world’s top gold miner dropped 7 percent after it bumped up the cost of building Pascua-Lama, located high in the Andes mountains on the border between Chile and Argentina, to $8 billion to $8.5 billion from an earlier budget of $7.5 billion to $8 billion. The company blamed the increase on delays and higher labor and project-management costs. …

Imperial Oil profit rises on higher refining margins
(Reuters) – Imperial Oil Ltd , Canada’s second-largest integrated oil company, reported a 21 percent rise in third-quarter profit due to higher mid-continent refining margins. Imperial said mid-continent industry refining margins remained strong at C$270 million ($270.1 million) in the quarter. Refining margins have improved as companies benefit from processing cheaper grades of crude oil from Canada as well as shale basins like the Eagle Ford in south Texas.
